Last night’s competition was down to it’s final eight designers!

Last night was interesting as the Mentor’s got to ultimately decide what would go down the runway! The designers struggled to stay true to themselves while trying to find something to make the buyers happy.

Here is a summary of what happened on last night’s show!

Kara designed a women’s suit. The mentors thought Kara’s suit was a strong piece. She offered a new look on a suit and Saks went for them! They felt like it was a fantastic job on a beautiful collection. Jessica Simpson loved the suits!

Nzimiro did a two piece suit. Caprice thought the detailing took away from an otherwise on-trend, fashion-forward suit. Ultimately, none of the buyers bid on his suits. However, the mentors were proud of how elegant his suits were.

Sarah did a faux wrap dress. Jess didn’t love the dress by  Sarah and  Sarah admitted that she felt so lost on this challenge.  It was no big surprise that no one gave her an offer. The buyers pointed out that it will not encourage anyone to buy if you put your own design down. But Sarah essentially knew she wasn’t loving her own design and she said she is not a liar and couldn’t try to force the dress on the buyers. Again, none of the buyers bid on her dress.

The mentors thought that Luciana needed to try to do soft and tough. She admitted it was where she has been wanting to go with her brand.  She wanted to do something innovative and creative but more subtle.  Jessica thinks that Luciana is a sexy little fire cracker but sophisticated at the same time. Jess wanted her to do a more structured look. Therefore, Luciana came up with a structured dress. She took her interpretation of her brand and made it more structured. Everyone feels that she has really grown into a true designer.  She received offers from H&M and Saks and they had a bidding war.

H&M ultimately bought it at $70,000.

The challenge was perfect for Luciana and the buyers thought she should be extremely proud. She has officially sold to all 3 stores and is the first designer to do so. Congrats to her on being the first to sell to all 3 stores!

Ronnie was told that the mentors thought he would eventually be an evening wear designer and that his strength is in gowns.   He knew he had to dig deep and knew he had to focus and not get affected by any drama. The buyers thought that the design of his dress was what they were waiting for and felt the dresses were extremely elegant.

Caprice decided to buy his dress at $50,000.

Macys likes to dress their customers for all occasions. Caprice liked his eye and attention to detail in the evening category. She was very excited to purchase his evening gown.

DESIGNER

RONNIE ESCALANTE

RONNIE ESCALANTE (Age: 32) — San Francisco, Calif. — Raised in the Philippines, Escalante spent most of his days on an agricultural province. At the age of 17, Escalante and his family moved to the U.S. in search of a better life and soon after, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. Keeping his chic and confident female consumers in mind, Escalante wants to keep the price point of his collection affordable.

Orly Shani did a column dress. The mentors thought she did a great job. She mixed zippers with soft silk -which created a jewelry affect.  H & M and Saks got into a bidding war over Orly’s dress. It came down to Orly’s decision and she ultimately chose H&M.

The mentors decided that they wanted Nikki to do a mini dress. It wasn’t where she wanted to be at all and she struggled on finding a fabric to make her dresses sing. Nikki created a mod mini dress however she did not get an offer from any stores. The buyers wanted her to go further on the details and they want her to push herself more on the design as a whole.

The final 4 up for elimination were: Nikki, Ross, Sarah and Nzimiro. The mentors decided to save the designer they felt had the ability to become American’s fashion star.  The Designer whom they felt would take it to the next level – they saved Nzimiro and he promised to not let them down.

Unfortunately, it was the end of the line for Sarah.

SARAH PARROTT (Age: 31) — Marietta, Ga. — She may be a newcomer to the fashion world, but she has always had a penchant for style. This stay-at-home mom decided to pursue her passion when she turned 30. She recently entered her first collection into the Charleston fashion week and won the People’s Choice Award. With such a successful first showing, Parrott is an emerging designer to keep in sight.

The Buyers chose Sarah to go home as she was not their Fashion Star. She sold $300,000 worth of her clothes at H&M and deserves to be grateful and proud.

Sarah said that she is excited to see where she will be a year from now.

There are only 3 episodes left! Next week, they need to create a single look to define their collection!

Watch it today, wear it tomorrow! Check it out next Tuesday night!
