Fashion Star: The Buyers Choice

Tuesday night brought us down to the FINAL 3!!

The designers had a lot at stake on Tuesday night’s show! The buyers got the opportunity to work with the designers to help guide them in what they were looking for in their designs. The buyer’s input was invaluable to the designers.

It was all about GO HARD OR GO HOME!

Ultimately, the designers need to have the versatility to design for 3 very different buyers! PLUS, to make it to the Finale, they have to sell to all 3 Buyers.  But staying true to themselves as designers proved to be difficult.

Nzimiro managed to stay true to himself with his safari jacket and trousers.  However, no one bid on his safari jacket or his traveling pants. His pants didn’t have a great appeal to Macy’s. But he did succeed in making it clear that he can design a full collection.

Kara did a sexy dress and the trench. Macy’s and H&M got in a bidding war over her dresses. Kara sold the dress to H&M since Kara designed the dress for H&M specifically. Macys and Saks fifth Avenue both wanted the trench coat. Macy’s ended up being the high bidder.

Macy’s wanted to sell one of Kara’s items so badly that Caprice bid $60,000 for it.

Lightweight Twill Trench Coat by Kara Laricks

Lightweight and streamlined, Kara Laricks’ updated trench coat is the piece you’ll want to wear everywhere this season. Two-tone construction and a floral-print lining add an extra dash of chic.

$99 in tan or red

KARA LARICKS
hometown: overland park, kansas ·inspired by menswear & an avant-garde japanese design aesthetic ·known for her hoodie scarves and collar-and-ties

This now means Kara sold at all 3 stores.

Orly’s dress received an offer from Saks. They loved the black and white dress and thought it was very flattering. Her pants and jacket got a $100,000 offer from H&M. They loved the structure of the jacket and loved the pants. They were modern and stylish.

Luciana needed to create looks for what a woman would wear to work. She designed a cropped jacket and shorts. She also designed a high waisted skirt. Luciana did not get any offers on her skirt and she also struck out on her jacket and shorts. Macy’s thought the designs were important to show them her capability as a designer.

Ronnie wanted to appeal to Saks. They wanted to see a different side of Ronnie. He did a woman’s suit and a menswear inspired dress.

Macys bid $50,000 on his wide leg pant and double lapel jacket.

Both Saks and H&M bid on Ronnie’s dresses and got in a bidding war. They went up to $100,000 each when finally H&M went upto $110,000. H&M thought it would sell amazingly in their modern classic department for women. This means Ronnie sold both of his items last night!

Nikki did an asymmetrical dress which I happened to love! She also did pants and a blouse which I thought looked great as well! John thought she did a great job and that she did what the buyers asked while managing to include her personality in her pieces.

Surprisingly, Nikki’s pants and blouse did not receive any offers. Luckily her dress received bids from Saks and Macy’s! Nikki made that dress for Saks and she was psyched to sell to them. This meant she has also sold to all 3 stores!

Even those designers who sold last night were night were NOT safe from the multiple elimination!  So without further ado…

3 Deisgners were eliminated: Nikki, Orly and Luciana
